Project Description

Summary: This study examines perceptions about climate change amongst U.S. farmers. It finds that a significant proportion of U.S. crop producers do not believe that climate change has been scientifically proven or that that it will adversely affect average crop yields and yield variability. The study examines attitudes amongst farmers by surveying crop producers in four of the most important grain producing states, asking questions such as:

  1. What proportion of farmers believe that climate change has been scientifically proven?
  2. What proportion of farmers believe that climate change will adversely affect average crop yields and yield variability?
  3. How many farmers are likely to diversify crops, buy crop insurance, modify lease arrangements, and exit farming in response to extreme weather caused by climate change?
